Youth Academy

The CSYMI Youth Academy Program is the fruit of a partnership with the Australian Catholic University (ACU) La Salle Academy. Students completing the Youth Academy receive an additional five bonus points towards entry into an undergraduate degree at the ACU. The vision of the ACU La Salle Academy is to ensure future teachers and leaders of Catholic schools are formed for the task of realising the aspirations of the New Evangelisation.

The senior Youth Ministry Team conduct such activities as:

  • Whole school Easter liturgies – Ash Wednesday, Holy Week and Easter ceremonies.

  • A formation and mission week for primary students

  • Family retreats along with staff.

  • A mission trip during the year.

  • Service and justice programs

Youth Ministry Equipping School

The Youth Ministry Equipping School provides a formation experience for senior secondary students. The Equipping School is seen as crucial to the ministry of leadership and service of youth ministry teams back in the school context. The Equipping School also prepares senior students wishing to participate in cross-cultural missions.

The Youth Academy is comprised of two programs, the Formation Program (Modules One to Four) and the Faith and Outreach Program (Module Five)

The Youth Academy and the Australian Catholic University

The Youth Academy is supported by the ACU. Upon completion of the initial Formation Program (Modules 1 to 4) of the Academy program, students will be awarded the CSYMI and ACU Faith and Ministry Award. Receipt of the award includes an additional 5 ATAR points towards an undergraduate degree at the ACU.

To ensure academic rigour is maintained, in addition to participation in the formation program, students will complete assessment tasks (Youth Academy Journal). If students complete Module Five: Faith and Outreach, there is an additional extended assessment task. Assessment will be overseen by teachers in the school through the application of a marking rubric supplied by the ACU la Salle Academy. The Youth Academy Journal will cover all Module content as well as include extended written tasks. A moderation process ensures consistency of application of the marking criteria as well as equity and transparency in the awarding of bonus points.
